Wooden Cutting Board Care Instructions
Your Wood Gnome cutting board is made from natural wood, free from dyes and stains, and finished with all-natural, food-safe materials. With proper care, your board can provide many years of use.
Everyday Care
Hand wash only. Wash your board with warm water and a small amount of mild dish soap after use.
Do not soak or submerge your board in water. Prolonged exposure to moisture can cause the wood to swell, warp, or crack.
Never put your board in the dishwasher. The combination of heat, water, and prolonged drying can damage the wood.
After washing, dry the board promptly and thoroughly with a clean towel. Allow it to finish air-drying completely in an upright or otherwise well-ventilated position.
Avoid leaving the board wet or sitting in standing water.
Smoothing Minor Wear
With regular use, your board may develop light knife marks or occasionally become slightly rough as the wood fibers are worked by your knives. For minor roughness or raised fibers, 0000 (extra-fine) steel wool can be used to gently smooth the surface. Work lightly with the grain, then wipe the board thoroughly with a clean, damp cloth and allow it to dry completely.
Extra-fine steel wool may also soften the appearance of very light knife scarring, but it is not intended to remove deeper cuts or significant damage.
For deeper knife scars or significant surface wear, contact us about our refinishing services. We can restore the surface and refinish the board so it can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.
Long-Term Care
Natural wood will occasionally need to be conditioned to keep it from becoming dry. When your board begins to look dry, feel rough, or lose its smooth appearance, apply a food-safe wood conditioner or board balm.
We recommend Wood Gnome Wood Balm, our own all-natural, food-safe wood balm. Apply a thin, even coat according to the product's instructions, allow it to absorb, and wipe away any excess before returning the board to use.
With regular washing, thorough drying, and occasional conditioning, your wooden cutting board should age beautifully and develop its own character over time.
